Dr. Argyrios Stampas, MD, MS, is a distinguished Professor and Vice Chair of Research and Innovation in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. He is also the Director of Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Research at TIRR Memorial Hermann, where he has been an attending physician in Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation for over a decade.
Dr. Stampas earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the State University of New York at Binghamton University and his MD degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Kennedy Krieger Institute. Additionally, he holds a Master of Science in Clinical Research from UTHealth at Houston McGovern Medical School.
Clinically, Dr. Stampas sees patients that have recently been injured and are hospitalized, as well as those that have been living with their injuries in the community. Dr. Stampas is also focused on clinical research to help the SCI population, as evidenced by his role as a principal investigator and co-investigator on numerous grants and his extensive publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is deeply committed to training other physicians to pursue research, demonstrated by his involvement in the Master of Science in Clinical Research coursework. His dedication to advancing the field of spinal cord injury medicine is evident through his ongoing research and commitment to improving patient outcomes.
Outside of work, Dr. Stampas enjoys spending time with family and friends.
