Dr. Vahidy is Associate Vice President of Research and Chief Scientific Officer at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston, Texas, and Adjunct Professor of Neurosurgery at Houston Methodist and of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at McGovern Medical School, UTHealth Houston. He oversees a broad research enterprise that spans brain injury, spinal cord injury, disability, independent living, and health outcomes, with a strong focus on building learning health systems that integrate research, innovation, education, and clinical practice.
Dr. Vahidy is a nationally recognized leader in big data science, artificial intelligence, and precision rehabilitation research. His work has been supported by NIH, PCORI, AHA, and other federal and philanthropic organizations, and includes comparative effectiveness trials, pragmatic implementation studies, and AI-driven health data platforms. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and serves as an Associate Editor for Neurology, the flagship journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
Deeply committed to mentorship and workforce development, Dr. Vahidy provides guidance to trainees and early-career investigators across disciplines. He plays an active leadership role in NIH StrokeNet, where he contributes to national trial development and mentoring of future clinical trialists. In addition, he has been integrally involved with NIH T32 training mechanisms, helping to cultivate the next generation of rehabilitation and health services researchers by providing structured training in clinical research design, data science, and implementation methodology.
Dr. Vahidy is a Fellow of the American Heart Association and a frequent invited speaker at national and international meetings. His vision emphasizes the translation of research discoveries into practice and policy, advancing patient outcomes, caregiver support, and system-level innovation in rehabilitation medicine.
