Dmitry Esterov, D.O. M.S, is a Consultant in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic within the Division of Brain Rehabilitation, and an Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. His specialty interest are in Neurological Rehabilitation including the rehabilitation of individuals with Traumatic and Acquired Brain Injury, through the spectrum of disease severity. He is the project director of Mayo Clinic's Traumatic Brain Injury Model System, a longitudinal multicenter initiative examining patients' courses of recovery and outcomes after traumatic brain injury. Dr. Esterov's research interests include population-based epidemiology of brain injuries. This involves accurately understanding long-term outcomes after traumatic brain injury, including the development of post-traumatic epilepsy, psychiatric disorders, neurodegenerative disorders and stroke. He seeks to understand both the risk factors and protective factors that can influence cognitive and psychiatric recovery after brain injury. Along with his research interests, he is also the assistant fellowship director of the Mayo Clinic Brain Injury Medicine fellowship training program.
