Shane Stone, MD (he/him/his)

PM&R Director of SCI

Shane Stone, MD is a physician at the San Diego VA Healthcare System with a clinical focus in spinal cord injury (SCI) medicine. He completed his medical degree at Wake Forest School of Medicine before entering residency in PM&R at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab/Northwestern University where he investigated the role of substance use disorder in SCI and participated in medical education projects. He then went on to complete a fellowship in SCI Medicine at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, where his training emphasized respiratory physiology after neurologic injury. Following fellowship, he joined the faculty at UC Davis as the PM&R Director of SCI and Residency Site Director at the UC Davis Rehabilitation Hospital. In this role, he helped shape residency education, provided mentorship across training levels, and collaborated on clinical program development in neurorehabilitation. Now at the San Diego VA, Dr. Stone continues to care for individuals with complex neurologic disabilities.
