I am board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with subspecialization in Pain Management. I practice neurorehabilitation with emphasis on stroke, polytrauma, and complex medical rehabilitation. My practice includes both inpatient and outpatient clinical care, management of spasticity, neuropathic pain, migraine headache, and complex disability. I have a special interest in physician wellness, program development, and physician leadership coaching and mentoring. I serve as Secretary of the AAP Chair Council.
My education includes undergraduate studies in neurobiology at Harvard University ('86-87), medical school at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine ('91), and PM&R residency at Northwestern University, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago ('95). I obtained a Masters of Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University ('18). I was a partner with Associates in PM&R serving as an attending physician at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital In Ann Arbor, MI from 1995-2018 where I served as Medical Director for PM&R for 17 years. In addition I served as Vice Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine and Chief of Staff. I served as site residency program director with the Department of PM&R, University of Michigan from 2006-2018. Since 2018 I have served as the Chair of the Department of PM&R, University of Utah and the Executive Medical Director of the Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital which opened for patient care in May, 2020.
My wife Bethany and I live in Salt Lake City, UT with, our two cats, Charlie and JoJo, and a border collie mix named Little Bear. We raised three wonderful children- Noah, Sophie, and Eliza.
