Shirley Ryan Ability Lab
Pablo Celnik, MD, is a physiatrist, physician-scientist and internationally recognized leader in rehabilitation and academic medicine. Since Oct. 2023, he serves as Chief Executive Officer of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab overseeing the organization’s vast clinical, research and education enterprise. He is a Professor at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine, an Emeritus Professor in Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and a member of the National Academy of Medicine.
Previously, he served as Physiatrist-in-Chief and Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Johns Hopkins University. His additional responsibilities at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine included the Director of the Human Brain Physiology Lab; Director of the Precision Medicine Center of Excellence in Rehabilitation and Co-director of the Sheikh Khalifa Stroke Institute.
Dr. Celnik has published more than 130 manuscripts in highly regarded peer-reviewed journals, has been the recipient of countless prestigious awards, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers from the US government, the Carolyn Braddom Ritzler Research Award and the Early Career Academician Award from the AAP.
A native of Argentina, he received his medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires Faculty of Medical Sciences. He completed training in neurology in Argentina and a fellowship in neurological rehabilitation at the University of Maryland. He also completed two research fellowships at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. In 2003, he completed the PM&R residency at Johns Hopkins, where he remained for 20 years as faculty in the PM&R, neurology and neuroscience departments.
