Matthew Haas MD is an attending physician at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he also serves as associate program director for the pediatric rehabilitation medicine fellowship and Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr Haas is a graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago/Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in Chicago, IL, where he served as chief resident. He then completed a clinical fellowship in pediatric rehabilitation medicine at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medicine Center. He is active in national educational volunteer and leadership roles and will complete his Master of Medical Education degree at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education in May 2026.
Dr. Haas’ clinical interests are primarily the rehabilitation needs of children and adolescents with oncologic diagnoses with additional interest in spasticity management and neurocritical care assessment. His clinical research interests include long-term functional outcomes in children with brain tumors and the role of physical activity in functional outcomes and hospital service utilization for patients undergoing blood and bone marrow transplantation.
He is an ABMS Visiting Scholar for 2025-2026 and his medical education research project focuses on identifying themes in exposure, mentorship and career decision-making among medical students and residents considering pediatric rehabilitation medicine to inform recruitment strategies and reform training pathways to address unmet workforce needs.
